.eu domains
Who may hold a .eu domain, how transfers work and what to do without a transfer code.
EURid manages the .eu extension. A .eu domain is only for people and organisations with a connection to Europe.

Who may register a .eu domain?
The holder must be one of the following:
- a citizen of an EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Norway, wherever they live;
- someone who lives in one of those countries, even without that nationality;
- a company or organisation established in one of those countries.
Are you an EU citizen living outside Europe? Then you state your nationality when registering. If the holder no longer meets the requirements, for example after the company moves outside Europe, EURid can revoke the domain.
Transfer code
You request the code in the customer panel, see Requesting a transfer code. As the holder, you can also get the code yourself through EURid's My .eu portal (eurid.eu).
The code is valid for 40 days. The message code is no longer valid usually means:
- the code is older than 40 days;
- a newer code has been created since;
- the holder was changed after the code was created;
- the code has already been used.
In those cases, request a new code.
No code from the previous provider?
If the previous provider does not cooperate and you cannot access My .eu, you can request an emergency code from EURid. You do this through the EURid WHOIS (whois.eurid.eu): look up the domain and choose the tool for requesting an authorisation code. You fill in a form, sign it and email it to EURid, which then reviews the request. Need help? Create a ticket.
