Emails about your .com domain (ICANN)

Why you sometimes receive emails about expiry or your details for .com and other international domains.

Updated on 5 November 2026

For .com, .net, .org, .info and the new extensions (such as .shop or .online), the rules of ICANN apply, the international organisation behind these extensions. Because of this, you may receive a few kinds of emails.

Expiry reminders

ICANN requires registrars to warn holders before a domain expires. You will receive reminders about a month and a week before the expiry date, and one more shortly after it.

Is auto-renewal on and the invoice paid? Then you do not need to do anything.

Annual check of your details

Once a year you receive an email listing the details registered for your domain. Correct? Then no action is needed. Changed? Update them in the customer panel. See Changing the holder or contact details.

Confirming your email address

After a registration, transfer or holder change, the holder sometimes has to confirm their email address using a link in an email. If you do not do this within 15 days, the domain may be suspended temporarily. So click the link when you receive such an email.

Not sure whether an email is genuine? Do not click any links, but create a ticket. Phishing emails sometimes pose as domain notices.
